Hiddenfjord partners with OCCAM to advance climate-resilient aquaculture

Hiddenfjord is proud to be a partner in OCCAM (Operationalizing Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in European Aquaculture), a pioneering Horizon Europe project focused on strengthening the sustainability and resilience of European aquaculture in the face of climate change.

Running from May 2025 to April 2029, OCCAM brings together 22 partners from across Europe, including research institutions, industry representatives, non-profit organisations, and aquaculture producers. The project aims to equip the aquaculture sector with innovative, science-based solutions that support both climate adaptation and climate mitigation.

As part of the OCCAM consortium, Hiddenfjord will contribute industry expertise and practical experience from the Faroe Islands to help develop, test, and validate new technologies and strategies for sustainable aquaculture production.

The project focuses on several key areas:

Sustainable aquaculture for a changing climate

OCCAM will pilot innovative aquaculture practices and decision-support tools designed to reduce environmental impact whilst maintaining economic viability. These solutions will help producers respond more effectively to climate-related challenges in real time.

Science-driven tools for smarter decision-making

Digital innovation is central to OCCAM. The project will develop data-driven tools and best practices to support climate-resilient decision-making throughout the aquaculture value chain.

Collaboration for long-term impact

By bringing together scientists, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, OCCAM aims to ensure that the project’s outcomes are practical, scalable, and relevant for the future of European aquaculture.

Nine case studies across Europe

The project includes nine regional case studies covering a wide range of aquaculture systems and production methods across Europe. These case studies will help ensure that the project’s tools and strategies are applicable across different environments and production models.

Hiddenfjord remains committed to responsible salmon farming and continuous innovation. Through OCCAM, we look forward to contributing to collaborative solutions that support a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for aquaculture.
