Sustainability Milestone: Hiddenfjord Saves 300,000 Tons of CO₂
Today marks 1,500 days since Hiddenfjord eliminated all air freight for our salmon distribution. By switching exclusively to sea freight, we have reduced our CO₂ emissions for overseas transportation by 94%. This reduction is equivalent to saving over 300,000 metric tons of CO₂—the same amount absorbed by approximately 5 million trees over 10 years*.
An independent study previously revealed that air freight was the largest contributor to our carbon footprint. Eliminating it was a challenging decision, as it meant stepping away from the lucrative Asian market for fresh salmon. However, we believed it was the only ethical and responsible choice to make.
Today, Hiddenfjord remains the only salmon farmer in the world to exclusively use sea freight. This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our determination to lead by example in reducing the environmental impact our of activities.
